JACKSON, Tenn. - 3/29/2011 - The Union (Tenn.) University golf team posted a fourth place finish in the Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University Invitational at the Old Hickory Country Club. Sophomore golfer Brett Barry, a former Jackson Christian standout, won in a one-hole playoff to earn top medalist.
Union’s team score of 601 was behind tournament winner Milligan College’s 580. Union shot a 301 on the first day and improved by one shot with a 300 on the second day.
Barry shot a first round 74, but then exploded for a final round of 68. The 68 was the lowest round of the tournament. Barry then faced off with Milligan’s Kody Fawcett in a one-hole playoff. Barry scored a par on the playoff hole to win the event.
Other Union finishers included Ryan Chander in 17th (152), Micah Gentle in 19th (153), Steven Coffelt in 27th (155) and Charlie Pittman in 44th (161).
Up next for Union will be a head-to-head event with Cumberland (Tenn.) University on Friday and Saturday, April 1-2 at Windtree Golf Club in Mt. Juliet, Tenn.
