Union men's soccer doubles up Central Baptist

JACKSON, Tenn. - 8/30/2011 - The Union (Tenn.) University men's soccer team posted a 4-2 victory at Central Baptist (Ark.) College. Union improved to 1-1 on the season, while Central Baptist dropped to 1-2 overall.

Union scored first on a goal by Guilherme Reis 15 minutes into the match. The score remained 1-0 well into the second half when Union added a second goal in the 68th minute from Dejan Kostic.

Just one minute later, Central Baptist cut the Union lead down to just one with a goal from Ryan Pelser in the 69th minute. Union answered one minute later on a second goal form Reis to put Union up 3-1. That goal capped off a stretch of three goals in the match over a span of just three minutes played.

Union's Taylor Mayo added the fourth goal for Union in the 87th minute, just before Central tacked on their final goal in the 88th minute.

Union senior James Landham recorded six saves and allowed two goals in his 90 minutes of work in net. Chance Murphy had seven saves, allowing four goals, in his 90 minutes of work.

Union outshot Central Baptist 15-14 in the match, including 8-2 in the first half. Central Baptist held the edge in the second half 12-7.

Up next for Union will be two matches in the Union Soccer Classic on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 2-3. Union will face Reinhardt (Ga.) and No. 2 Notre Dame (Ohio).
