Union volleyball goes 2-2 at Cumberland Classic

JACKSON, Tenn. - 9/10/2011 - The Union (Tenn.) University volleyball team posted a 2-2 weekend at the Cumberland (Tenn.) University Volleydawg Classic in Lebanon. Union lost to Campbellsville (Ky.) 3-0 and Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) 3-0 on Friday. The Lady Bulldogs then rebounded and defeated Fisk (Tenn.) 3-0 and Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) 3-0 on Saturday. Union’s record is now 5-4 on the season.

In the first match, Union fell to Campbellsville 25-15, 25-15, 25-17. Union was led by Savannah Hughes with eight kills. Emmie Moroski added 11 assists, while Anna Sims led with five blocks. Amanda Deem led with two aces for Union.

In the second match on Friday, Union lost to Lindsey Wilson 25-20, 25-9, 25-19. Union was led by Hughes with eight kills and Sims with six kills. Moroski added 18 assists, Kami Dickerson and Wainwright led with three blocks, and Lydia Wright led with four aces.

On Saturday, Union defeated Fisk 25-11, 25-13, 25-14. Union was led by Cassidy O’Hair with 10 kills. Moroski and Wright led with 15 assists each. Lauren Sprouse led with three aces.

In the final match, Union topped Trevecca Nazarene 25-22, 26-24, 26-24 in three close sets. Union was led by Wainwright with 12 kills. Dickerson and Sims added nine kills each. Moroski led with 31 assists, Sims led with five blocks and Wright led with four aces.

Up next for Union will be a road conference match on Tuesday, September 13 at Mid-Continent (Ky.).
