JACKSON, Tenn. - 9/16/2011 - The Union University men’s soccer team halted a four-match winless skid Friday with a 2-1 win over Lyon (Ark.) College. Union improved to 2-4-1 overall and 1-0 in the TranSouth. Lyon dropped to 3-3 overall and 0-1 in league play.
Union took the lead in the first half on a goal from Guilherme Reis in the 15th minute. Union held a 1-0 lead at the half. In the second half, Lyon scored in the 62nd minute to tie the match on a goal from Bill Jeffries.
With time winding down, Union’s Alysson Mohl scored the game-winner with 10 minutes left in regulation, giving Union the 2-1 win. Diego Santos recorded the assist on the game winning goal.
Union outshot Lyon 16-7 in the match, including 8-4 in shots on goal. Union’s James Landham recorded three saves, while Thomas Guarina had five saves in the loss.
Up nest for Union will be a home match Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. versus Williams Baptist (Ark.).
