Union men’s soccer wins second straight

JACKSON, Tenn. - 9/20/2011 - The Union University men’s soccer team posted their second straight win in a 2-0 victory versus Williams Baptist (Ark.) College Tuesday. Union improved to 3-4-1 on the season, while Williams Baptist dropped to 3-4 overall.

Union scored first with a goal by former Trinity Christian Academy standout Alex Pratt in the 41st minute of the first half. Sutton Shults recorded the assist as Union claimed the lead. Union led 1-0 at the half.

After another long scoring drought to start the second half, Union was able to add an insurance goal in the 79th minute of play. Dejan Kostic scored on an assist from Guilherme Celli.

Union outshot Williams Baptist 20-8 in the match, including 10-3 in shots on goal. Union committed nine fouls, with seven fouls tallied by Williams Baptist.

Union’s James Landam recorded three saves in his 90 minutes of work. Hector Vera of Williams Baptist recorded 10 saves in the loss.

Up next for Union will be a road conference match at Mid-Continent (Ky.) October 1. Union’s next home match in not until October 18 versus Bethel (Tenn.). Union will play five straight road matches.
