JACKSON, Tenn. - 9/30/2011 - Anna Sims, a senior for the Union University volleyball team, recorded her 500th career block Thursday. Sims is a four-year starter for Union and has exactly 500 blocks through 452 career sets played.
Sims, a 5-foot-11 hitter from Trussville, Ala., has helped Union to a conference tournament title in 2008 and a regular season TranSouth title in 2010. She is also just shy of another milestone with 958 career kills. Sims is averaging 2.12 kills and 1.11 blocks per set in her career. Sims has been named to the all-conference team in each of her three seasons to this point. The Union record for blocks in a career is 541.
Sims prepped at Hewitt Trussville High School where she played four seasons of volleyball. She helped lead her team to three straight Area 13 Championships from 2005-2007. In 2006, her squad won the Fairhope Classic Title. As a senior, Sims earned Area 13 All-Tournament, AVBCA second team All-State, Birmingham news All-State, and was Team Captain. Sims was top-10 in kills for the Metro Area and was team leader in kills and blocks. She added Area 13 MVP to her honors as a junior. Sims recorded 3.75 kills per game, 12.5 kills per match, 1.5 blocks per game, and 4.5 blocks per match. Her 374 kills in the season led the metro area for 10 straight weeks. Off the court, Sims was a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, French Club, and was an honor graduate.
