Union wins team title at Blue Mountain Invite

HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. - 10/20/2011 - The Union University men's golf team posted a first place finish in the Blue Mountain (Miss.) College Fall Invitational Wednesday at the Kirkwood National Golf Club. The team battled tough weather conditions on a cold, wet and windy day to earn their second tournament title of the fall.

Union posted a team score of 324 in the one-day, 18-hole event. Blue Mountain fired a 325 for second place, Bethel was in third with a 327 and Lyon finished fourth with a 339.

Union's Brett Barry finished second in the event with a round of 77, just one shot behind the medalist. Steven Coffelt shot an 81, Kyle Long and Jesper Swedenbert shot 83's and Ben Waits added an 84. Union played four individuals in the event including David Hopper with an 84, Andrew Knight with an 86, Ryan Mantooth with a 95 and Matthew McSwain with a 90.

Up next for Union will be the Martin Methodist Invitational in Lawrenceburg, Tenn. on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1. This will be the final tournament of the fall for Union.
