Union women’s soccer falls in conference championship match

PULASKI, Tenn. - 11/11/2011 - The Union University women’s soccer team lost 2-0 at No. 6 Martin Methodist College in the championship match of the 2011 TranSouth Conference Tournament. Union ends their season at 12-3-2, while Martin Methodist improved to 13-1-2 overall.

Union and Martin Methodist played to a 2-2 tie in the regular season and both finished as Co-Champions of the regular season with 5-0-1 records. It was the first championship in the short history (2005 was inaugural season) of the program.

Martin Methodist scored in the 14th minute of play to go up 1-0. The RedHawks outshot Union 6-1 in the first half. The game remained 1-0 in favor of the home team when the RedHawks added unneeded insurance with a goal in the 70th minute. Martin Methodist recorded goals from Nicole O’Donnell and Mor Efraim. Linnea Sahlin recorded the assist on Efraim’s goal.

Emily Warren for Union allowed the two goals with two saves in the match. Hanit Schwarz recorded one save in the match. Union was outshot 10-2 in the match, including 4-1 in shots on goal.

Union set new program records this season including winning percentage (.765) and goals allowed (15).
