Union’s Ross named conference player of the week

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - 11/22/2011 - Union University’s Lavanda Ross has been named the TranSouth Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending November 20, 2011.

Ross, a 5-foot-8 senior guard from Jackson, Tenn., averaged 22 points, 5.5 rebounds, two assists, and 2.5 steals per game in four wins against ranked teams during the week. Three of those teams are ranked in the top-13 while the fourth is 26th in the NAIA preseason polls. Ross' top game was in Union’s 69-56 win over No. 8 Campbellsville when she tallied a career-high 27 points and added nine rebounds, and three assists. Ross added two more 25 points games on the week in a 67-58 win over No. 9 Westminster (Utah) and a 74-47 win over No. 13 Saint Xavier (Ill.). Ross added 11 points in a 76-48 win over The Master’s (Calif.).

Ross shot 60 percent (38-63) from the field and hit 83 percent (10-12) from the charity stripe.
