NASHVILLE, Tenn. - 1/9/2012 - Lavanda Ross of Union University has been named the TranSouth Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, for the week ending January 8, 2012. It is the fourth time this season for Ross to earn this honor.
Ross, a 5-foot-8 senior guard from Jackson, Tenn., nearly averaged a double-double on the week for the No. 2 Lady Bulldogs. In addition to scoring a career-high 28 points in Union’s 99-55 win over Virginia Wise, Ross was just three assists shy of a triple double. The NAIA All-American added 10 points, seven rebounds, and three steals while shooting 10-for-15 from the field against UVA-Wise. She hit 3-of-4 from three-point range and five of six from the foul line. Ross also added 11 points and nine rebounds versus No. 19 Bethel and 24 points and eight rebounds versus Martin Methodist.
For the week Ross averaged 21 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and 2.7 steals per game. From the field, the former North Side High School standout hit 56% (24-43) from the field and 73% (11-15) from the foul line.
