Wandera Named NCCAA Player of the Week

Jackson, Tenn. - 11/4/2003 - For the second time this season, Gladys Wandera of Union University has been named the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Volleyball Player of the Week. Wandera helped lead Union to the NCCAA National Championship. On the week, Union went a perfect 7-0 to improve their overall record to 33-5.

Wandera, junior middle hitter from Kenya, led No. 25 Union to a win over defending NCCAA National Champions and NAIA No. 20 Olivet Nazarene. She was named MVP, NCCAA 1st Team All-American and was named to the All-Tournament 1st Team for her efforts during the week. She tallied 156 kills (6.5/game) in the 24 games played. In four of the seven matches, she recorded 20-plus kills.

Union now turns focus to the remainder of the TranSouth season and NAIA postseason. Union has three conference games remaining and are currently sitting in second place in the conference standings at 9-2. The TranSouth Conference Tournament will start on Friday, November 14 in Nashville, Tenn. on the campus of Trevecca Nazarene University.
