ORLANDO, Fla. - 11/22/2003 - The Union University men's soccer team advanced today to the NCCAA National Championship game on Monday at 6:30 p.m. CST versus Southern Wesleyan University (S.C.) Union, the No. 6 seed in the tournament, knocked off their second straight higher seed as they defeated No. 2 Cedarville University (Ohio) 1-0 in the semifinals. On Friday, Union defeated No. 3 The Masters College (Calif.) 1-0 in the first round. Union improves to 12-5-3 on the season.
Union struck with the only goal of the game in the 70th minute. Fabio Buarque assisted Gareth Munro for the game winner. Union allowed just three Cedarville shots, all in the first half.
Southern Wesleyan is the No. 8 seed in the eight team tournament. They knocked off the No. 1 seed in the opening round. Union has defeated the No. 2 and No. 3 seeded teams. This will be Union's first NCCAA National Championship game in their five tournament appearances.
