Honors Follow Union's NCCAA National Championship

ORLANDO, Fla. - 11/26/2003 - Four Union University soccer players earned honors following Union's first ever National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Soccer National Championship. Senior Kekec Zivkovic was named the national tournament MVP. Kyle McDiarmid and Marko Pavlovic were named to the All-Tournament defensive team. Fabio Buarque and Zivkovic were named to the All-Tournament team as midfielders.

Zivkovic, a senior from Yugoslavia, has been a four-year starter for the Bulldogs. On the season, Zivkovic played in 20 of Union's 21 total games. He was second on the team with 22 total points, including seven goals and eight assists on the year. He tallied Union's second goal of the game in the championship game win over Southern Wesleyan.

Like Zivkovic, McDiarmid has been a leader for Union for four seasons. He hails from Canada and has served this past season as a co-captain for the Bulldogs. McDiarmid tallied three goals and four assists on the year as a defender.

Pavlovic and Buarque are both freshmen on the Bulldog team. Each has put together solid seasons for Union and should only get better over the next three seasons. Buarque score the game winning and only goal for Union in the semifinal win over the No. 2 seeded Cedarville to propel Union to the championship game.

In the NCCAA National Tournament, Union became the second straight team to sweep through the tournament without allowing a goal. Union posted three shutouts on their way the title, 1-0 over The Masters, 1-0 over Cedarville, and 2-0 over Southern Wesleyan in the championship game. Union finished the season with an overall record of 13-5-3.
