HUMBOLDT, Tenn. - 3/23/2004 - Judson Powers of Humboldt, Tennessee has signed to play his college baseball for the Bulldogs of Union University. Powers graduates from Humboldt High School this coming May and will enter Union as a freshman this fall.

Powers, a 6-foot-2 outfielder/pitcher, has been a starter for Humboldt since his freshman season. He has been named first team All-West Tennessee and first team All-Region during his career. He was named to the Babe Ruth Hall of Fame and also was the MVP of the 2002 Babe Ruth 16 Year Old State Tournament. Powers was named the offensive MVP, All-District, and District 12AA All-Tournament in 2003. Last season, Powers hit .509 for the season. In addition to baseball, Powers played football at Humboldt were he was played quarterback, safety, and receiver during his career. In 2002, he was nominated for the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award.

On top of the numerous athletic awards and accomplishments, Powers excels in the classroom as well. He has a 3.8 GPA at Humboldt while taking several advanced courses.

Union’s head coach Andy Rushing is excited about Powers’ decision to sign with Union. “Signing Jud is like signing two players,” says Rushing. “He is a great athlete that will probably start as a freshman in the outfield and also see time on the mound. His tremendous athletic ability and left-handed arm off the mound will both be great assets to Union for the next four years.”
