JACKSON, Tenn. - 5/18/2004 - Corey Burkett, a transfer from Wallace State Community College in Hanceville, Alabama, has signed to play his final two seasons of college basketball for Union University. Burkett is a 6-foot-3, 215 lb. guard who played for Coach Dale Seals at Wallace State-Hanceville. He will enter Union this fall as a junior.
Last season as a sophomore at Wallace State, Burkett average 22 points, seven rebounds, and four assists per game. He was a first team All-Region XXII and was named to the Alabama Junior College All-Star Team. Burkett also served as the team captain last season. He led the Alabama Junior College Athletic Association in three-point shooting in the 2003-04 season. Burkett is a 2001 graduate of Dothan High School in Dothan, Alabama.
Ralph Turner, the head coach for the Union Bulldogs states that, “Corey is a proven scorer. Not only was he one of the leading scorers in Alabama, but was one of the top-20 scorers in the nation last season.” Turner adds, “We look forward to Corey making an immediate impact on our team.”
