Union Cross Country Adds Two Runners to the Men’s Squad

JACKSON, Tenn. - 6/14/2004 - Phillip Thompson, of Laconia, Tennessee, and Lane Turner of Saltillo, Mississippi have signed on with the Union University men’s cross country team. Both Thompson and Turner will enter Union this fall as freshmen.

Thompson, at 5-foot-7 and 125 lbs., ran both track and cross country for Fayette-Ware High School in Somerville, Tennessee. In 2003, he was the AAA track state champion in the 800-meter race. Also in 2003, Thompson was named a cross country All-State performer with a 4:34 mile.

Turner, at 6-foot-0 and 165 lbs., also ran track and cross country at Saltillo High School in Mississippi. In cross country, he was named All-State in 2000, 2001, and 2003 with a 16:58 time during the 5K run. In 2000, Turner was named Rookie of the Year with a 4:50 mile. And in 2001 and 2002, he earned the Most Valuable Runner award at Saltillo.
