JACKSON, Tenn. - 10/5/2004 - The Union University men's soccer team earned an important TranSouth Conference win as they topped Freed-Hardeman University (Tenn.) 5-1 at Union on Tuesday night. Union improves to 5-5-1 overall and 2-1 in the TranSouth. Freed-Hardeman falls to 9-4-1 overall and 0-3 in the league.
For Union, Marko Pavlovic got the scoring started with an unassisted goal eight minutes into the game. Gareth Munro then added three straight goals, one in the 11th minute on a penalty kick, the second in the 46th minute unassisted, and the third in the 51st minute with the assist going to Benny Crozier. Gareth now has a team leading 7 goals on the season and was his fourth game-winning goal. The before mentioned Crozier added Union's fifth and final goal in the 59th minute on an assist by Carl Strickland. Freed-Hardeman's goal came in the 65th minute by Stephen Walker, unassisted.
Dickson, Tennessee native Robert Stinson recorded five saves on seven Freed-Hardeman shots. Freed-Hardemen's Andrew Williams tallied two saves on 12 Union shots.
Up next for Union will be a home non-conference match versus Piedmont College (Ga.) at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 9.
