Union Men Earn Win in Season Opener

JACKSON, Tenn. - 11/2/2004 - The Union University Bulldogs topped Williams Baptist College (Ark.) 93-80 as they opened their season with a win. Union goes to 1-0 while Williams Baptist falls to 0-1.

Union was led by Corey Burkett and Ben Frederick with 19 points each. Cortney Jones added 10 points for the Bulldogs. In addition to these three, all players for Union scored at least three points in the game. Bruno Martinessi led the Bulldogs with nine rebounds to go with his nine points. In the game, Union sho 46% from the field including 39% (14-37) from behind the arc. Union made 13 of their 15 free throws attempted.

For Williams Baptist, Jeremy Bell, who posted 36 points versus Union last season, scored 31 in tonights contest. Braden Watson added 20 points for the Eagles.

Up next for the men's team, Union will travel to No. 8 Georgetown College (Ky.) on Thursday night at 7:00 pm.
