Ralph Turner Gets Record Win in Large Fashion

Jackson, Tenn. - 1/24/2002 - Union University Bulldog head coach Ralph Turner gets his record setting 186 win as the Bulldogs defeated Freed-Hardeman 79-50. Turner, 186-80, now has more wins in than any other Bulldog coach in history as he surpassed Jim Swope (185-160). But more important to Turner is the fact that this dominate win over No. 6 Freed-Hardeman puts his No. 9 Bulldogs back on top in the TranSouth Conference.

Union had a 41-27 lead at the break and never looked back. The Bulldogs outscored the Lions 38-23 in the second half to finish with the 79-50 victory. Leading the Bulldogs was senior Robert Joseph with 22 points, nine rebounds, and four blocks. Junior guard Michael Katrosh shot 3 of 5 from the three-point range to help tallied his 13 points. Underwood and Martinessi added 12 and 10 points respectively. Union regained their shooting touch as they drilled nine three-pointers on the evening, shooting 51% from the field and 70% from the free-throw line. The Bulldogs held Freed to only 36% from the field and 33% from behind the arc. Two players paced Freed-Hardeman in double figures with Norsworthy scoring 12 points and Lamber adding 11 for the game.

The Bulldogs improve to 20-3 overall and 4-1 in the conference. Freed-Hardeman falls to 22-3 with a 4-1 mark in the conference.
