JACKSON, Tenn. - 11/20/2004 - Union University, ranked No. 4 in the NAIA, defeated No. 3 Oklahoma City University 92-70 in the final game of the Rotary Classic. This comes on the heels of Union's eight point win over No. 2 Vanguard University. Union improves to 8-0 on the season while Oklahoma City falls to 4-2 on the year.
Oklahoma City jumped out to a 12-0 lead to start the game. Union then started a rally and used a 22-9 run to take 22-21 lead at the 6:56 mark. Oklahoma City then jumped out to a eight point lead at 30-22. However, over the final five minutes of the first half, Union used a four three pointers by Jennifer Henson in a matter span of two minutes to jump to a 38-35 halftime lead.
In the second half, Union never trailed as they jumped out to a 49-39 lead at the 18 minute mark and after that, Oklahoma City never got within 10 points. Union's biggest lead of the game came at the 8:16 mark as Union led 77-52.
Union was led by Stephanie Clark with her NAIA leading eighth double-double of the season as she tallied 23 points and 16 rebounds. Monica Elliot also tallied a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Four other Lady Bulldogs scored double figures including Merideth Richardson with 16 points, Jennifer Henson with 15 points, Ena Daniels with 12 points, and Paola Ferrari with 10 points. Both Henson and Richardson made four three pointers in the game. Union shot 45% from the field, including 43% (12-28) from behind the arc. Union also made 22-of-25 (.880) free throw attemps in the game.
Oklahom City was paced with two players in double figures led by Sadio Sangare with 22 points. Natasha Doh added 20 points for the Stars. Oklahoma City shot 40% from the field including just 23% (4-17) from behind the arc.
Up next for Union will be a trip down to former TranSouth Conference foe, Berry College. Game time will be 6:00 pm.
