Union Softball and Volleyball Coach Resigns Positions

JACKSON, Tenn. - 4/14/2005 - Brian Dunn, the head coach for both the volleyball and softball teams at Union University has tendered his resignation for both positions effective at the end of the 2005 spring softball season. Dunn stated that time away from home was the major factor in deciding to step down after successful careers in both sports while at Union. Dunn has two children, ages seven and four, and would like to be more involved in their activities. According to Dunn, the travel and time commitments of coaching two collegiate sports limited that time with his family.

This is Dunn’s ninth year and 16th season at Union. He took over a young softball program in 1997 and started the volleyball program in 1998. His current softball team is 31-6 overall and ranked No. 10 in the NAIA.

Under Dunn’s leadership, the volleyball and softball programs have a combined record of 678-160 (.809) over his eight softball and eight volleyball seasons. His teams have won nine TranSouth Conference Championships, six conference tournament championships, and five NAIA Region XI Championships. He has taken six teams to the NAIA National Tournaments, including a third place finish in the 2001 NAIA Softball World Series. His squads also captured four NCCAA National Championships over the last nine years.

During his nine year tenure, Dunn has coached 73 All-Conference, 49 All-Region, 26 All-Americans, and 27 scholar-athlete award winners. Dunn has earned 28 Coach of the Year awards, including being named the NCCAA National Coach of the Year five times. He served as the TranSouth Conference Softball Chairman for six years and is currently serving a term as the NAIA Region XI Chair and softball rater.
