Union Adds North Side Soccer Player to Women’s Roster

JACKSON, Tenn. - 7/12/2005 - Rachel Watson, a native Jackson, has signed to play soccer for the Union University Lady Bulldogs. Watson will join the team this fall as a sophomore and will major in Athletic Training.

Watson, a 6-foot goal keeper, played her high school soccer at North Side High School here in Jackson where she averaged over 10 saves per game each season. In addition to soccer, she also played golf, basketball, and softball. Watson helped lead her teams to a district soccer championship in 2003, district softball championships in 2002, and three state basketball tournament appearances in 2001, 2003, and 2004. Watson was named the 2002 Best of the West Athlete of the Year, and the 2004 North Side High School Athlete of the Year. She earned district MVP honors in soccer in 2003 and was named all-tournament four years (2001-2004) in soccer. In basketball, Watson earned all-district, all-tournament, all-academic, and most improved. Watson was also a two-time all-tournament performer in softball.

Off the field, Watson was a member of the Beta Club, was voted the student body secretary, and the junior class treasure. She graduated 9th in her class of 236 students.
