Union Captures TranSouth Conference All-Sports Trophy

JACKSON, Tenn. - 7/12/2005 - Union University captured the TranSouth Conference All-Sports Trophy for the 2004-05 athletic season. The marks the second straight season that Union has captured the All-Sports Trophy.

Of the nine sports sponsored last season, Union boasted four conference championships in men's cross country, women's cross country, men's basketball, and volleyball. Softball finished second in the conference, while men's soccer, golf, and women's basketball each posted third place finishes. No Union sport finished in last place.

Union led the way with a 4.722 average, while Trevecca Nazarene University was a close second with a 4.389 average. Freed-Hardeman University finished third at 3.615, Martin Methodist College finished fourth at 3.350, Cumberland finished fifth at 3.346, and Lyon finished sixth at 3.300.

This award is based on a point system that awards each school for their finishes in each regular season of the possible 13 sponsored TranSouth sports. Each team earns points for their finishing position, the higher the finish, the more points the school earns. The totals are then divided by the number of sports in which the school participates.

Sports must have at least four school sponsored teams to count toward the total.
