JACKSON, Tenn. - 11/4/2005 - The Union University men's soccer team earned a trip to the TranSouth Conference title game with a 1-0 win over Martin Methodist College in the semifinals this afternoon. Union, the second seed in the tournament, improves to 12-1-1 overall, while Martin Methodist falls to 9-4-5. With the win, Union assures themselves of at least an at-large bid to next week's NAIA Region XI Tournament in Colubmia, Ky.
Union scored on a penalty kick goal by Gareth Munro in the 75th minute to give Union the lead and eventual win. Robert Stinson recorded three saves for Union.
Union play in their second straight TranSouth Tournament championship game and third overall in school history. A win over Cumberland, the regular season champion, would give Union their first ever soccer conference title.
