Union Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs Move Up in NAIA Polls

JACKSON, Tenn. - 1/4/2006 - Both of the basketball teams at Union University moved up one spot each in the latest NAIA National Rankings. The Union Bulldogs, after knocking off a ranked Oklahoma City team on the road just before Christmas, moved up to the No. 3 in the men's polls. While the Union Lady Bulldogs, who stopped their longest losing streak in 13 years with a 45-point win over No. 30 Berry, jumped up to No. 7 in the women's polls.

The Union men resume play this Saturday when they travel to Beckley, West Virginia to play the No. 1 team in the nation in Mountain State University. The Bulldogs are 12-1 after a very tough first half of the season. In those first 13 games, Union defeated eight ranked teams with six of those wins coming on the road. Union's only loss was to No. 6 LSU-Shreveport on a neutral court by the score of 92-86. In Union's first six games in January, five of them will be versus ranked teams, including the first four (at No. 1 Mountain State, at No. 19 Lambuth, vs. No. 28 Lindsey Wilson, and at No. 10 Trevecca Nazarene).

The Union Lady Bulldogs open play this weekend also versus Arkansas Baptist and Brescia in the Lambuth Classic. Union then plays three tough road games (at No. 21 Lambuth, at Campbellsville, and, at No. 4 Trevecca Nazarene).
