JACKSON, Tenn. - 1/18/2006 - After a tough road loss to No. 6 Lambuth, the Union men dropped from No. 1 to No. 3, however, still picked up a first place vote. Union, now 14-2 on the season, was ranked No. 1 last week for the first time in school history. On the women’s side, the Union Lady Bulldogs are winners of five straight and are ranked No. 5 in the NAIA and are 13-3 on the season.
Union’s men start conference play on Thursday night, January 19 at Trevecca Nazarene. Union’s pre-conference schedule has been on of the toughest in the nation with Union posted a 10-2 record versus ranked teams, 9-2 road record, and a 5-0 home record.
The Lady Bulldogs also begin conference play on Thursday night at Trevecca Nazarene. So far this season, the only set back for Union was a three-game losing streak after starting the season 8-0. That three-game losing streak was the longest in 13 seasons for Union Lady Bulldog Basketball.
Tomorrow’s TranSouth Conference match up at Trevecca Nazarene will feature all four teams ranked in the NAIA’s Top 10. The women’s game will pit No. 3 Trevecca Nazarene (18-0) vs. No. 5 Union (13-3). Last season, Trevecca Nazarene beat Union at Union to give the Lady Bulldogs their first loss at 17-1. In the men’s game, No. 3 Union will face No. 10 Trevecca Nazarene. Trevecca Nazarene is the only conference team to beat Union’s men since the 2003-04 season.
