Union Men Jump Back into Top-10, Women Stay at No. 4

JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/22/2006 - For the ninth time this season, both the Union University men’s and women’s basketball teams find themselves ranked in the NAIA Top-10 at the same time. In the latest rankings released on Wednesday, the Union women stayed at No. 4 in the nation. The Bulldog’s stay outside the top-10 lasted just one week as they jumped back to the No. 9 position.

Union’s men, now 23-5 on the season, have been ranked all season and have been in the NAIA Top-10 for nine of the 10 rankings released to this point. On the season, Union is 13-3 versus teams ranked in the NAIA Top-25 and are 4-1 versus teams currently ranked in the top 3 (lost on neutral court to No. 1 LSU-Shreveport 92-86; defeated No. 2 Mountain State at home 83-78 and away 104-98 OT; and defeated No. 3 Oklahoma City at home 67-66 and away 79-73). Union closes out their regular season this week with conference games at Martin Methodist on Thursday night and home versus Freed-Hardeman on Saturday. Union currently sits in a tie for first in the conference with a 7-3 record.

In each of the rankings this year, the Union Lady Bulldogs have been ranked in the Top-10. Union currently sits in second place in the TranSouth at 8-2. The Lady Bulldogs finished their regular season this week with a road game at Martin Methodist and a home rematch versus No. 2 Freed-Hardeman. If Union wins their final two games, they will secure the No. 2 seed in next week’s TranSouth Conference Tournament.
