JACKSON, Tenn. - 4/20/2006 - The Union University baseball team set three school records in a 22-4 win at Bethel College (Tenn.). The Union Bulldogs hit 12 doubles, slapped 26 hits, and posted 45 total bases, all of which are new team records. Union's 12 runs in the fifth inning fell just one run shy of another record.
Union was led by junior Jason Cooper who was 4-for-6 on the day with three doubles, a homerun, and four RBI. Jud Powers also went 4-for-6 with five RBI and one homerun. James Brasfield continued his hot hitting on a 3-for-5 day with four RBI, a double, and a homerun.
In the game, seven different players for Union hit at least one double.
Union's Ben Ayris (4-2) earned the win by tossing five innings, allowing three runs on six hits.
Up next for Union will be a key TranSouth Conference series versus Cumberland University (Tenn.) Currently, Cumberland is tops in the league standings with a 10-2 mark, while Union sits in third, just two games back at 8-4.
