JACKSON, Tenn. - 5/16/2006 - The Union University baseball program has signed Will Dement to join the Bulldog program. Dement graduates form the University School of Jackson this May and will enter Union in the fall as a freshman.
“I am very excited to have the opportunity to play for Coach Fronabarger at Union”, states Dement. “I look forward to working hard and getting better over the next four years.”
Dement, at 6-foot-1 and 190 lbs., spent most of his time at USJ in the outfield. In addition to baseball, he also was a played wide receiver, strong safety, and punter for the Bruin football team. Dement was a part of the USJ’s 2005 Tennessee State Baseball Title, as well as, a state runner-up finish for the Bruins. He and his teammates are currently pursuing another title run in 2006 as they compete this weekend for a return trip to the state tournament.
USJ Head Coach Brad Dyer says, “This is a great day for USJ and also a great day for Union. Will is a great kid and will be an excellent addition to Union University, as a player, student, and person.” Dyer continues to say that, “Will is going to be a great leader and citizen one day. His education and values learned at home and at USJ will only continue to develop during his time at Union.”
Dement has split time during his high school career between baseball and football. Union Head Coach Brent Fronabarger believes that he can become a great baseball player as he can now focus solely on baseball. “Will is a very athletic kid that has tremendous ability. By the end of his career, he will have not only improved himself as a player, but our baseball program as well.” Fronabarger continues by saying, “Will is a great person from a great family that has been a superb student athlete. We are excited to sign another local player and he will be a perfect fit for Union University.”
