JACKSON, Tenn. - 8/3/2006 - The Union University men’s basketball team announced the signing of Tony Brown, a 2006 Junior College All-American, for the 2006-07 season. Brown comes to Union after spending his freshman season at Kirtland Community College. He will enter Union this fall as a sophomore and will major in Sports Management.
Brown is excited at the opportunity to play for Union. “I chose Union because I really liked the people and the emphasis on academics. I also know they have a great basketball history”, stated Brown
Brown, a 6-foot-1 180 lb. guard, averaged 21 points and seven assists last season as a freshman to help earn his third team NJCCA All-American status. He was also named All-Region and All-Conference at Kirtland. Prior to his first season of college basketball, Brown prepped at Battle Creek High School in his hometown of Battle Creek, Michigan.
Union head coach Ralph Tuner says, “It’s great to sign a Juco All-American after their freshman year.” Turner adds, “With his ability to score and pass, Tony has the tools to play both guard positions for the next three years.”
