JACKSON, Tenn. - 8/28/2006 - The Union University men's soccer team opened the 2006 season with a 7-2 win over Southeastern University (Fla.) on Monday night to go to 1-0 on the season. In the NAIA preseason rankings, Union received votes, coming in at the No. 29 spot.
Union trailed 1-0 early, but rallied to scored two goals before halftime to take a 2-1 lead at the break. Seniors Kirk Childers and Duncan Nicol gave Union the first half lead that they would not give up. In the second half, Union got it's third goal by an own goal from Southeastern. After the second Southeastern goal of the game, Union expoded, scoring the final four goals in a span of 15 minutes to earn the 7-2 win. Childers added his second goal of the game, followed by a goal by Benny Crozier, and two goals by Wagner Oliveira. Union's Chris Lean played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded two saves. Union held Southeastern to just four shots on the day.
Union will remain in Florida for a match versus Clearwater Christian College on Tuesday, August 29 at 4:30 pm.
