Union Volleyball Goes to 10-0 with Win

JACKSON, Tenn. - 9/18/2006 - The Union University Lady Bulldog volleyball team improved to 10-0 on the season with a 3-2 (30-22, 21-30, 30-15, 22-30, 15-11) win over Bethel College (Tenn.) This game meant more this year than just a West Tennessee rival game as the Bethel Wildcats joined the TranSouth Conference during the offseason. Union goes to 10-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while Bethel falls to 6-6 overall and 1-5 in league play.

The 10-0 start is currently 5th best all-time in the 9-year history of the Union volleyball program (2001: 14-0, 1999: 14-0, 1998: 14-0, 2003: 11-0, 2006: 10-0).

Union was led by Jackson native Amanda Hutchison with 22 kills. Monica Schirmer added 12 kills while Elena Villagomez tallied 11 kills.

Early in conference play, Union sits in a tie atop the TranSouth standings with Martin Methodist College at 2-0.

Union will play another rival match with added significance as they host new TranSouth member and crosstown rival Lambuth University at Union's Fred DeLay Gymnasium on Tuesday night at 7:00 pm.
