Union Basketball Teams Climb in Latest National Polls

JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/7/2007 - Both the Union University men’s and women’s basketball teams moved up in the latest NAIA National Rankings released on Wednesday. The men, following two straight wins, jumped nine spots to No. 13. The Lady Bulldogs continued their climb back among the nation’s elite to the No. 6 spot.

The Lady Bulldogs are winners of nine straight games, including back-to-back wins over No. 11 Cumberland University (Tenn.) and No. 9 Trevecca Nazarene University (Tenn.). Union began the conference season 0-2, however, are now sitting alone atop the conference standings with a 9-2 record. Up next for the Lady Bulldogs will be a road game at conference newcomer Mid-Continent University in Mayfield, Kentucky on Thursday night. Union plays five games over the next ten days, including a home game versus Bethel College (Tenn.) and a road trip to Henderson to battle Freed-Hardeman University (Tenn.).

On the men’s side, Union has look energized over the past two games, including a win over then No. 19 Trevecca Nazarene. The Bulldogs posted the largest climb in the national rankings back to No. 13. Union is now in a tie for second place at 8-3 in the league, just two games behind the leader with seven league games remaining. Like the women, Union plays five games over the next 10 days, including a road game at No. 30 Crichton College (Tenn.) and match-ups with area rivals Bethel and Freed-Hardeman.
