JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/10/2007 - The Union University Bulldogs swept Southern Virginia University in a double-header on Saturday in the team’s home opener. The Bulldogs won the first game 7-1 and the second 8-3. This puts Union at 3-1 on the season, while Southern Virginia dropped to 0-6 on the year.
Union scored first with two runs in the bottom of the first inning and led 3-1 by the end of the second. The Bulldogs added two more runs in the fourth inning and again in the sixth inning to take the win over the Knights by a final score of 7-1. Greg Abram earned the win on the mound for the Bulldogs to go 1-1 on the season. Josiah Enyart led Union’s offense, going two-for-three, scoring three runs, and earning a walk. Jason Cooper went one-for-two with three runs scored as well. Southern Virginia’s only run was scored in the second inning by Tyson Erikson on a single by Troy Butterfield.
Union rallied to win the second game by a final score of 8-3 in a game where combined, the two teams posted six errors in the bitter cold. Union fell behind 2-1 after the second inning, but outscored the Knights 7-2 in the final five innings to post the win. The winning pitcher for Union was Clint Arthur who is now 1-0 on the season. Garrett Pepper led Union’s offense going two-for-two, with a run scored, and three RBIs.
The Bulldogs are in action again this weekend at home for a three game series with Lindsey Wilson College (Ky.). The Bulldogs play Friday, February 16, at 3:00 pm and start a double header at 11:00 am on Saturday at Union’s Fesmire Field.
