JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/17/2007 - The Union University Bulldogs came away with an 8-7 win in the snow on Saturday to take the three-game weekend series from Lindsey Wilson College (Ky.). The Bulldogs split a double header on Friday with Lindsey Wilson, losing the first game 1-0 and winning the second 18-1. Saturday's win put the Bulldogs at 5-2 on the season, while the Blue Raiders of Lindsey Wilson dropped to 2-3 for the year.
Union jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, but Lindsey Wilson quickly answered with two runs of their own to tie the game after four innings. In the top of the fifth inning Lindsey Wilson posted three runs off RBI singles by Kerry Gorley and Nelson Cartagena. Union was able to mustered one run in their half of the fifth inning.
Over the final four innings, Union outscored Lindsey Wilson 5-2, including a game winning single by Judson Powers in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Union’s offense was lead by Shaun Cozart who went 2-4 on the day, with two runs and one RBI. Powers who went 2-5, scoring a run, also driving in one run. Eight of nine starters for Union posted at least one hit for the day to help the Bulldogs come away with the win.
Lindsey Wilson was lead by Nathan Bray who went 4-5 with two runs scored and one RBI, and Nick Phelps who was 3-4 for the day and also posted two runs scored and one RBI.
The Union University Bulldogs will be back in action Tuesday, February 20 at 2:30 pm against William Carey College (Miss.) at Union’s Fesmire Field.
