JACKSON, Tenn. - 3/31/2007 - The Union University Lady Bulldog softball team posted a 7-0 win over No. 11 Martin Methodist College (Tenn.) RedHawks on Saturday. Union, who is receiving votes at No. 30 in the latest NAIA rankings, moved to 20-9 on the season and 12-5 in the TranSouth. The loss dropped the RedHawks to 23-4 on the year and 12-1 in league play.
The second game of the schedule double-header was called due to rain before it started. The game will be made up at a later date. Check the Union website for updated schedule information as it becomes available.
Union jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the bottom helped by a lead-off double by Amy Chatham and three RedHawk Errors. Union added another run in the third and two more each in the fifth and sixth innings.
Cassie Turley improved to 9-6 on the season with seven innings of work, allowing just two hits and no runs with six strikeouts. Leading Union offensively was Chatham going 3-for-4 day with two runs and one RBI. Ashley Walters, Kristen Kirk, and Candace Cross added two hits each for Union.
Martin Methodist hurler Liz Adams (10-2) took the loss, by allowing seven runs, of which only four were earned, and 11 hits over her six innings of work.
Up next for Union will be their Spring Break trip to Florida where they will play Florida Southern University on Monday and Webber International University on Tuesday.
