Union Softball Adds Alabama Junior College Standout

JACKSON, Tenn. - 8/2/2007 - The Union University softball program has signed Ashley Blankenship for the upcoming softball season. Blankenship, a native of Alabaster, Alabama, will enter Union this fall as a junior and will seek a degree in Physical Therapy.

Blankenship stands 6-foot tall and will play first base for the Lady Bulldogs. She transferred to Union from Gadsden State Community College where she played two seasons of softball. As a sophomore, she hit .495 with 14 homeruns and a .790 slugging percentage. Blankenship was named All-American, All-Region, and All-Conference as both a freshman and sophomore at Gadsden State. She prepped at Thompson High School. While in high school, Blankenship earned the varsity offensive award, 5A Area 7 Softball Tournament MVP, and the Golden Glove Award.
