Expectations are high heading into the
2000-2001 season for the Union University Bulldogs. Although
losing five seniors, Union is poised to make the 4th
consecutive appearance in the NAIA National Tournament. This
season promises to be exciting. The Bulldogs have 7 players
returning from last season plus 2 key transfers. This team has
championship experience, as well as, athletic ability like few
have seen here.
Anthony Brooks
and Bubba Hoover will provide the senior leadership for
this year’s bulldog team, and their contributions will help the
Bulldogs return to the National Tournament. Hoover’s accuracy
from the three point line and Brooks’ versatility will add to
the Bulldog offense. Senior transfer Robert Joseph,
coming off of an All-American season, will add
size and experience to the post position.
Rodney
Bond is the lone junior on this very talented team. Bond comes
from Southwestern Illinois, where he tallied 21 points and 15
rebounds in the Junior College regional Championship. Bond will
add size and athleticism down low.
Sophomore Jake Eaton is a proven
three-point threat who will see minutes at the wing position. William
Gray’s ability to defend well and finish on offense will put
him in key roles this season, while Michael Katrosh can add
instant offense at the three-point line. Zach Wiggs will be
expected to step up and play a vital role at guard for the
Bulldogs. Enelio Moreno will be hard to defend because of
his ability to shoot from the perimeter, as well as, produce down
low.
This year’s freshman class adds tremendous
talent to the Bulldog team. Freshman guard Chima Abakue was
the Dallas, Texas area leading scorer and true freshman forwards Will
Harris and Ryan Dixon will add great skill to the
perimeter. Michael Talley will also provide depth to the
bulldog guards.
