Coaching Staff

Gary Johnson is now in his sixth season as head coach of the Bulldog Tennis team. He has led Union to five straight NAIA National Tournament appearances and have just won back-to-back TranSouth Conference Championships.

Originally from Tulsa, Okla., Johnson graduated from Union University in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education. He completed his Master of Science degree at the University of Memphis in December of 1993. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Arts degree in Physical Education from Middle Tennessee State University.

In addition to men's tennis, Johnson is the head coach for men’s and women's cross country. He completed a sweep of his sports in 2001-02 when he received the coach of the year award in each of the three sports he coaches. Johnson has been named TranSouth Conference Coach of the Year in women’s cross country twice (1999, 2001), men’s cross country once (2001), and men’s tennis four seasons (1999-2002).

Johnson is married to the former Holly Tingor of Jackson. The two are active fitness runners and are members of Englewood Baptist Church.
