Before Union: Mullen prepped at Reidland (Ky.) High School where she played five seasons of softball. She helped lead her team to four Kentucky Class A state titles (2006, 2007, 2008 and 2010). Mullen was named all-district three times, all state twice, all-state tournament and was named to the East/West All-Star Game. She hit .451 as a senior with 36 RBI, eight doubles and two home runs. In her career at Reidland, Mullen hit .405 with 145 runs, 193 hits, 21 doubles and three home runs. Off the field, Mullen was the student council president, senior class officer, earned the Junior Rotary Scholarship, was on the 2010 Academic All-State Team, and was voted Miss Reidland High School.
