2000 Season Summary
Head Coach Brian Dunn, reaching his 100th
career win, has led the Lady Bulldogs
to an overall record of 113-29 in the short three year history of women's
volleyball at Union. Dating back to October 21, 1998, Union had won 29
straight home matches. On September 18th of this
season, the Lady Lions from Freed Hardeman threatened the streak.
Union was down 2 games to 0 before the Lady Bulldogs stormed back
with three wins to take the match to keep the streak alive. The streak came to an end
on November 18th during the NAIA Region XI Tournament held at
Union, when eventual champion Georgetown defeated the Lady
Bulldogs 3 games to 0.
On the season, Union is currently 35-10 overall and
9-1 in the conference. The Lady Bulldogs clinched
their second straight regular season TranSouth Conference
Championship. Union finished third in the TranSouth
Tournament held in Birmingham. Lauren Hayden and Andrea Darr
were named to the All-Tournament team. Hayden and Darr were
also named 1st Team All-Conference. Emily Van Dam and Liz
Travis were named 2nd Team All-Conference. Sarah Davenport,
Van Dam, and Hayden were named TranSouth Conference Scholar
Athletes.
Union hosted the NAIA Region XI Tournament November 16-18. This will marked the third trip in
their three-year history to participate in the tournament. The
Lady Bulldogs lost in the semifinals to Georgetown College,
KY. Lauren Hayden was named to the All-Region team.
The NCCAA MidEast Region was once again owned by
the Lady Bulldogs. Union won the NCCAA MidEast Region
Tournament for the third straight season (1998-2000). Coach Dunn, and
junior outside hitter, Lauren Hayden won the NCCAA MidEast Region
Coach and Player of the Year respectively. Hayden, along with
Emily Van Dam, Andrea Darr, and Liz Travis were recently named to
the All-Region team.
Union’s Lauran Hayden has left her mark on
her team as well as the NAIA. Hayden set the All-Time NAIA
career kills record with 2747 in only three seasons with the Lady
Bulldogs, breaking the old record of 2728 kills. This season
she tallied 950 kills which is the 3rd most kills in one season in
the NAIA. Lauren Hayden was named NAIA All-American for the
2000 season.
