Current Missionaries-in-Residence

We are grateful to have two families serving as Missionary in Residence at Union University for the 2010-2011 school year. Information is provided below about the three families at Union this year.

The Pettigrews - Andy and Laura Pettigrew live and serve in Gaborone, Botswana where they are seeking to make disciples among "youth," particularly among university students. Youth in Africa can be anyone below the age of 29. In fact, youth are very much on their hearts as they labor not only in Botswana, but Andy serves as the Student Strategist for all of Sub Saharan Africa looking to connect students in the States with Africa as well as seeking ways to reach the youth population throughout the sub continent. Nearly 75% of the entire population of Sub Saharan Africa is below the age of 29. Making disciples among them and leading them towards healthy church is very much on their heart. Following the model of Christ they seek to invest in the few to impact the many. Andy and Laura both attended Union University and finished in 2000. Andy also holds an MDiv from Southern Seminary. They've been married since 2000 and now have 3 children: Lili (09/06/2003), Elliot (06/29/2006), and Wesley (10/05/2009). We ask that you constantly pray that our family would clearly display the gospel in all we do.

The Hoglens - David and Jennifer Hoglen have served with the International Mission Board in Belgium since 1994. David grew up in the mission field in Venezuela, is a 1980 graduate of Carson-Newman College and a 1986 graduate of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. His career as a missionary began through the Journeyman program in Spain from 1981 to 1983. Following his degree from Southern Seminary, he served on church staffs in Covington and Maysville, Kentucky. Jennifer graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1980 and also holds a masters and EdS degrees from the University of Louisville. She has taught school in Missouri and Kentucky. In 1990, David and Jennifer returned to Spain with the International Mission Board. In 1994, they began working in Belgium, where they continue to share the love of Jesus, specifically with North Africans. They are the proud parents of three girls: Blair (a 2008 Union graduate), Jenna (will be graduating from Centre College in Kentucky in 2012) and Anika (a freshman at Liberty University in Virginia). If those they speak to during their time here see that God uses average people like them to share His love, they can see how He can use their many gifts for His glory all around the world.
