Current Missionaries-in-Residence

We are grateful to have three families serving as Missionary in Residence at Union University for the 2009-2010 school year. Information is provided below about the three families at Union this year.

The Fenwicks Wayne and Caryn have served together overseas in Germany since 2004. Wayne and Caryn work with a large immigration population found in Berlin, Germany. Wayne and Caryn were both born in Africa and immigrated to the USA in 1988. In 2000, Wayne and Caryn became citizens of the USA. Before moving to Germany, Wayne was the student minister at FBC Monroeville in Alabama. Wayne and Caryn also worked together at the Georgia Baptist Children's home before they moved to Alabama. They were Group Leaders for teenage boys and pre-teen boys. They have two daughters Amey who will be 17 and a high school senior. Their youngest daughter, Lara is 14 and will be in the 9th grade. During their year as MIR at Union University they will have a young lady who is Lara's good friend living with them from Germany. Lea is 14 and will also be in the 9th grade.

The Schulz Clyde and Carol Schulz have served in Brazil since 1989. They have worked in three cities, the last two of which are at the mouth of the Amazon. Clyde has been a church planter and has taught evangelism/church planting to lay workers at a local Bible Institute. He also taught missions and evangelism at the seminary in Belém, where they presently live. Carol enjoys discipling young people, teaching EFL classes and Bible to children in public schools. Before marrying, Clyde and Carol met in the Journeyman program where they served in Brazil and Guam, respectively. They have four grown children, three of which graduated from Union: Christina 26, Carl 24, and Catherine 22. Catherine is presently working on her Masters at Union. Curtis, 18, is a freshman this fall at Union. They are excited to be returning to the campus as MIRs having previously served in 2004-05.

The Tuns Before marriage, Cornel has served in Romania for eight years and Erica served for two years in East Asia. Cornel holds a Master's degree from The Master's Seminary and is currently pursuing his doctorate in New Testament from Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary. While in Romania, Cornel serves as a church planter and travels to several different cities to teach and train church planters. Cornel helped start the Romany Bible Institute for those who will never be able to go to seminary but need to be equipped in order to more faithfully preach the Word. Since serving as a journeyman in East Asia, Erica has most recently worked with an international student ministry at Iowa State University through her church. She also worked with Iowa State students in a program designed to help prepare them for missions. While at Union, Erica serves as secretary for the biology and chemistry departments and volunteers at Birth Choice in Jackson. Cornel and Erica are expecting their first child in December. They will be at Union through the spring of 2010.

The Missionary-in-Residence Program

The Missionary-in-Residence Program at Union University is designed to provide a temporary home for missionaries serving on stateside assignment (furlough) and to promote awareness of global missions to the Union University and surrounding church communities. Union University is committed to active involvement in global missions. By hosting missionary families each academic year, our faculty, staff, and students hear eyewitness accounts of God's movement around the globe as well as discover short and long term opportunities of service.

The Office of Campus Ministries desires for the faculty, staff, and students of Union University to integrate involvement in global missions into their lifestyles. By offering the Missionary-in-Residence Program on our campus, students can meet individually with a missionary and discuss life in another country, mission opportunities, or cross culture missions! Missionaries possess a wealth of knowledge about different cultures, world religions, and the peoples of the world. They assist the faculty, staff, and students of Union University in broadening its global outlook, increasing its understanding of global missions, and expanding our vision of using specific vocations for God's kingdom.
