Ryan Center Houses Original 1615 Geneva Bible
March 71, 2003 - Dr. Carl Trueman, associate professor of church history and historical theology at Westminster Theological Seminary, reminded the Union community in Wednesday's chapel service of the great sacrifices made by 16th century English exiles who produced the Geneva Bible.
"The Geneva Bible was the first English translation to capture the hearts and minds of the English speaking world, bringing reformation and revival with it," said Ray Van Neste, director of the R.C. Ryan Center for Biblical Studies. "We are pleased to have one of Britain's prominent young evangelical leaders on Union's campus to discuss this important piece of church history."
Union's Ryan Center for Biblical Studies is privileged to house an original copy of the Geneva Bible, published in 1615. A generous donation from David and Linda Shoaf made the acquisition of the center's copy possible.
Trueman is the author of Luther's Legacy: Salvation and English Reformers, 1525-1556 and The Claims of Truth: John Owen's Trinitarian Theology. He is a graduate of St. Catharine's College, Cambridge and the University of Aberdeen
