Dr. Atkins Presents at the TSETL Annual Conference

Michele W. Atkins, Ph.D., Chair, Institutional Review Board & Professor of Education

October 30, 2010 - Dr. Michele W. Atkins served as a presenter at The 40th Annual Conference of the International Society for Exploring Teaching and Learning (ISETL). The conference was held on October 7-8, 2010 in Nashville, TN. Her session was entitled: Enhancing Learning through Engaging Students.

Abstract
Too many instructors are frustrated by faces of apathy, disengagement, or even anger. Faculty struggle to plan lectures and deliver content that inspires today's youth. However, several researchers contend that institutions of higher education are failing tomorrow's leaders if they simply "stand and deliver" content. Rather, young adults today must engage in the content to solve complex problems of tomorrow. This session addressed the concept of student engagement and explored tips, strategies, and techniques of pedagogy. The presenter acted as facilitator as participants engaged in small-group and large-group discussion, role play, and activity.
