Anna Clifford presents at the Summer Summit Teaching with Technology

Anna C. Clifford, Ed.D., Professor of Education

August 4, 2012 - Dr. Anna Clifford was an invited presenter to the 3rd Annual P-16 Summer Summit Teaching with Technology on June 4-5, 2012. The two day event was held at Cleveland State Community College in Cleveland TN. Ms. Robbie Melton with TN Board of Regents gave the keynote address. The conference was open to teachers, principals, supervisors, and interested parties throughout the state.

Dr. Clifford presented two sessions:
Session 1: TN Academic Vocabulary + a little TECH = Good Stuff

Most say there is no single best way to teach terms and phrases. However, the research and theory on vocabulary development does point to a few generalizations that provide strong guidance. The Tennessee Department of Education Division of Teaching and Learning recommends six steps in teaching each of the TN Academic Vocabulary terms or concept. This session will focus on teaching strategies (based upon the recommended six steps), utilizing original pictures and user-friendly tech tools. Examples created by preservice teachers will be shared. </p>

Session 2: Digital Citizen? How Do YOU Rate?

“Digital citizenship can be defined as the norms of appropriate, responsible behavior with regard to technology use.” It encompasses Cyber bullying Prevention, Internet Safety, Safe Online Social Networking, Copyright and Fair Use Guidelines, Acceptable Use Policy and much more. Students must be taught; teachers must model. However, student and teachers must work together to create a teaching-learning digital environment with exemplar citizens. The discussion will focus on the nine elements of Digital Citizenship. Student projects (enhance with user friendly tech tools) will be shared showing application and understanding of each of the elements.
