Reflection: A Key to Developing Effective Professors

Kenneth Newman, Ed.D., Professor of Educational Leadership, Jackson

July 1, 2009 - Drs. Michele Atkins, Kenneth Newman, and Ann Singleton presented at The Teaching Professor Conference in Washington, D.C. Their session entitled Reflection: A Key to Developing Effective Professors focused on reflection as a key to the develpment of effective teachers at any level. Moreover, in order to reflect upon teaching, self-awareness and self-assessment are essential. Cherniss and Goleman (2001) asserted that self-awareness is vital in recognizing strengths and weaknesses. Therefore, faculty members should understand the relationship between these constructs and utilize the process of reflection in order to develop professionally. This interactive session introduced participants to a framework for reflection to utilize for professional growth. (June, 2009)
