Computer Accounts for Union University Students

Last updated: October 20, 2009

As a current Union student, you have computer accounts. They give you access to your e-mail (an official means of university communication), file storage, grades, online course content, library research databases, and more. These are password-protected private resources.

Your accounts are available to you as long as you are an active Union student.

·         Your accounts are automatically created after you are enrolled in classes, just before your first term at Union starts. You must change your temporary password to use your account (see below).

·         Your accounts will be maintained as long as you are enrolled in classes at Union. E-mail and file storage, provided through Microsoft’s Live@Edu services, are available for life.

·         Except for your e-mail and file storage, your accounts are automatically deleted when you are no longer an actively enrolled student. This occurs just after the last day to drop, in the first major term for which you are not registered for classes. For example, if you are enrolled in classes in the spring but do not return the following fall, your accounts (excluding all files and e-mail) will be deleted around mid-September. Students enrolled in the fall but not active in the spring lose their accounts in mid-February.

How to Change Your Password

In order to access your Union resources successfully you must follow three steps below, first changing the temporary password we have created for you. Once this password has been changed, you will use your new password to access any resources listed in Step 2. Step 3 is critical each time you use any of the resources.

Your username and temporary password are created as follows.

Step #1:

When it is necessary for you to log in and change your password, this can be done in one of two ways. Choose only one option.

·         Option A: Use a Union-owned Windows computer on the Jackson or Germantown campus to change your password.

·         Option B: If you do not have close or frequent access to the Jackson/Germantown labs, use any computer that has internet access to log into password.uu.edu to change your password.

Step #2:

·         Remember your password so that you don’t lock yourself out of your account.

·         If you are periodically asked to change your password, you must choose a new password each time.

·         If it appears you are able to log into one of your accounts but not others, you should still be able to use password.uu.edu at any time to change/synchronize your password.

·         If you are locked out of your account (you cannot change it at password.uu.edu), please contact the Jackson campus student helpdesk at 731-661-5400 or the Germantown helpdesk at 901-759-0029 x126.  Information will be collected to verify your identity before your account password will be reset. This will generally be done within 24 working hours or less.

·         Once your password has been reset you must follow either of the options in Step #1 again in order to change your password to something only you know, before trying to access your other resources.

Once you have changed your temporary password to a new one, you will have access to the following Union resources, using the same username and the new password:

Step #3:

Remember to keep your information secure by logging off each time you are finished working.

It is also good practice never to share your password with anyone.
