Phi Alpha Theta Holds Its Spring Plenary Meeting and Initiation Ceremony

Feb 19, 2009
The Delta-Psi Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society held its spring plenary meeting and initiation of new members on February 19, 2009. President Joshua Abbotoy presided over the meeting, which was attended by eighteen people. The chapter elected the following students as its officers for the 2009-2010 school year: Noah Arnold, president; Katelyn O’Roark, vice president; Mary Alisa Techentin, secretary; Lauren Bogdan and Joel Wellum, senators. Members also agreed to have a Carl Harken Day at the baseball field on a day when he pitches in April, to hold their annual Franco-American bake sale either on April 3 or April 19, and to have a Phi Alpha Theta tee shirt-wearing spirit day. President Abbotoy announced that the chapter’s seventeenth annual cookout will take place at Dr. Carls’s home on May 15, and that Phi Alpha Theta members are invited to attend the department’s May 5th awards banquet, which will celebrate the Rutledge Honorary History Club’s 80th anniversary. He also talked about the Phi Alpha Theta Biennial Convention in San Diego, California, on January 6-9, 2010, and, based on his own experience at the 2008 biennial convention in Albuquerque, New Mexico, he strongly encouraged students to attend the 2010 meeting.

During the meeting, Vice President Carl Harken conducted an initiation ceremony in which the following six students were inducted into Phi Alpha Theta: Elizabeth Blevins, Kate Cline, William Fortner, Katie Mohler, Katelyn O’Roark, and Joel Wellum. The society concluded the meeting with refreshments.
