Department Student Organizations Induct New Members
Apr 10, 2009
The Rutledge Honorary History Club and the Delta-Psi Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society held separate induction ceremonies for new members in early April.
Kathleen Cooper, the president of the history club, inducted five students into that organization at a meeting on April 1. The students initiated were Meagan Comeaux, Hannah Crossett, Jonathan Lambach, Andy Seaton, and Joy Trimble. Dr. Terry Lindley, the club’s faculty advisor, used the occasion to talk about the history department’s awards banquet that the club sponsors each year; it will be held on Tuesday, May 5, this year. He announced that the evening’s featured speaker, Dr. Joseph Fuhrmann of Murray State University, would talk about Grigori Rasputin, a corrupt Orthodox priest who was a close advisor to Empress Alexandra in the waning months of the tsarist regime in Russia during World War I. Dr. Lindley also emphasized that the May 5 banquet would be a celebration of the club’s 80th anniversary (1929-2009). Refreshments were served at the end of the meeting.
On April 10, the Delta-Psi Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta added a new member when Nathan Tilly was inducted in a special ceremony. Delta-Psi President Joshua Abbotoy presided over the initiation and was assisted by Katelyn O’Roark, the society’s vice president-elect for 2009-2010.
